Reading: Our class will work in the third grade basal readers and with novels.  Tests on the basal stories are typically given on Fridays.  Reread the week’s story with your child, and help them to gain a complete understanding of the selection.   Spelling: Vocabulary corresponds with the story in the basal.  Tests are given on Fridays, and the core list of 15 words should be mastered.  The five Challenge Words are for extra credit.   Language Arts: We’re working in a language arts textbook to master sentence structure and parts of speech.  Currently we’re studying verbs.  Supplementary materials may be used to reinforce concepts learned.   Book Reports: Students are encouraged to bring their books to school for use during independent reading time.
