About Fourth Grade:
Fourth grade is an exciting year. We allow exciting
novel studies to take us away during Literacy at least once a week.
We use journal writing as a means by which to work on our writing skills
in different genres and hone our basic writing and skills in preparation
for the fourth grade Diocesan Writing Test. We create original 3-D
masterpieces for Science, Social Studies, and book projects in
Literacy. We continue using the Saxon program in Math and learn long
division and many new and complex algorithms. Our Social Studies
curriculum is based upon North Carolina History and we study the state's
earliest inhabitants, through European civilization, the Revolutionary and
Civil Wars, and into the 20th century. We also spend the year
discovering fascinating science facts and experiments for the monumental
display of knowledge during the school-wide Science Days in the spring.
