There are many different
symbols in North Carolina that represent various things. You will be amazed by
some of NC's symbols and why they are so important. Through this process,
you will learn about symbols that describe North Carolina and that are important
parts of its history. In addition you will find that North Carolina is a
beautiful state that contributes to the economy of the Unites States.
Your teacher has planned a scavenger hunt for you to collect symbols that represent North Carolina. The hints and clues given will lead you to the symbols. Use these hyperlinks below to help you on your hunt. After you have collected all of the symbols, you will design a collage on a poster board. Work as quickly and accurately as possible. GOOD LUCK!!

Check the hints for your hunt. 2. Visit the given websites to find your symbols. (But you can use ANY website!) 3. Print out pictures and symbols and paste them on you collage. 4. When you're done (It should take at least THREE class periods!!!!!) turn in your collage to your teacher. 5. Here is a selection of examples of symbols you can find (REMEMBER: you should have at least 15 symbols!): *The state motto means "To be rather than to seem". *This state song was written by William Gaston and E. E. Randolph. *This state mammal collects nuts. *The state insect produces more than $2 million worth of honey in NC. *The state gem is also May's birthstone. *The state flower is a "Barking Tree".
We hope you enjoyed what you have learned about North Carolina's different symbols. Each symbol is unique and stands for something important to NC's history. Not knowing it, you have gained a lot of knowledge about The Tar Heel State!
